We know the groundhog saw his shadow, but there's no reason why you can't start thinking about getting the boat ready for the summer. The Spring Work Order Requests have been sent out so if there is anything you would like to get done besides regular maintenance please let us know so we can start working on it now. By doing that you will be assured of having your boat ready for spring. Please send you SWOR back even if we are only launching your boat. Sending this back is the only way you can get put on the launch calendar and the launch calendar is the only way the guys know who to launch.
The final two slip payments are due on February 15th with the final slip payment due on March 15th. If you need to make other payment arrangements please do not hesitate to contact us. By not making payments or calling you run the risk of losing your slip.
Have you sent us a current copy of your proof off hull and liability insurance? This is required for all boats staying at Brewer Yacht Yard at Mystic so please make sure we have a current copy on file. The copy we need should have the current, unexpired dates of the policy and the boat information. Please remember we also need to have your current registration or documentation number on file for the State of Connecticut Department of Revenue Services when they come to check the records.
Becoming a Clean Marina!
Here in Mystic we have been designated as a State of Connecticut Clean Marina. There is a lot involved in becoming a clean marina and it has been an ongoing effort for several years. This in and of itself is not a simple task. Some of the things involved are Storm Water Discharge Permits, pressure wash water waste managemetn, hazardous waste management, manifests and recycling all play a roll in the process. We are proud of the way we take care of our marina and we hope and expect that you too will embrace these efforts.
Conservation
Conservation is something we all must practice and there are many ways we can do it around the yard. For example, please dispose of trash and recyclables in the proper dumpsters. The dumpsters are maked appropriately, there are three for trash and one each for cardboard and bottles and cans. Waste oil should also be disposed of properly, not in the trash dumpsters but in the Waste Oil recycling bin. Please feel free to ask if you are not sure where something should be disposed of.Please don't leave your air conditioners on if you are not going to be on the boat. If you are leaving after the weekend and will not be back until Friday please feel free to give us a call and we will put you air conditioner on before you arrive at no charge. Don't forget to turn off the lights! Water is another precious commodity so please do not leave the water running if you don't have to.
Working together we can become a 'Clean Marina' in more ways than one!
Shrink Wrap Recycling
Once again we will be recycling the shrink wrap from the boats. The following are the instructions we would ask you to follow if you are uncovering your boat: Please REMOVE all door, zippers, vents, rope, ribbon strapping (belly bands) and ohter non-shrink wrap materials from the shrinkwrap. You may be able to reuse the doors and vents for use next year. Try to keep the shrink wrap as clean as possible - gravel and sand make the recycling process more difficult; excessive dirt may make the shrink wrap unmarketable for recycling. To maximize the amount of shrink wrap that will fit in the dumpster, it would help if you roll the shrink wrap into a bundle up to 5 feet long, much like rolling up a sleeping bag and tie the bundle with a strip of shrink wrap. Again, please try to keep hte shrink wrap as clean as possible. Leave the bundled shrink wrap under your boat and the guys in the yard will pick it up for disposal. Thank you for helping us with this recycling program.
Bottom Painting and Dustless Sanders
Please remember that when stripping, sanding and painting the bottom of your boat you MUST use a ground tarp and a dustless (vacuum) sander. Here at the yard we have two dustless (vacuum) sanders available for your use at NO rental cost. The only think you will have to pay for is any sandpaper you might use during the process. Make sure you call in advance to reserve on and it will be ready for you when you get here. Please DO NOT move the stands when painting the bottom of your boat! When the time comes to launch the boat leave us some of your left over bottom paint and a brush and we will take care of any poppet (stand) and block marks you may have.
